Yobe to lift ban on motorcycles

The Yobe State Government has disclosed its plans to lift the ban on motorcycles, which came into effect in the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency in the state.
The plan was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser on Press Affairs and Information to Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, Mallam Abdullahi Bego.
Bego, in the statement, made available to our correspondent on Saturday, said Gaidam was considering lifting the ban on the use of motorcycles in Potiskum town and some other major towns in state to allow single individuals to ride motorcycles again.
He said, “A statement will be issued to this effect very soon after the completion of a review currently being undertaken by security agencies in the state.”
Bego added that the governor had approved the re-opening of part of Mai Idrissa Way, along Divisional Police Office in Potiskum, which was closed to public use due to security concerns.
He said the re-opening of the road took effect from Saturday, noting that members of the public, including shop owners, who were compelled not to open their shops around the area, “can now open their shops for business and use the road for their daily commuting.”
He explained that the governor gave the approval following a meeting he had with heads of law enforcement agencies in the state and also in view of the gradual improvement on the security situation in the state.
He however urged the people across the state to continue to remain vigilant and security conscious and to keep on praying for the full restoration of peace and security.
